2016 NZ Masters Games

6 February Otago Harbour

Womens club 8 - Gold

With a four hour delay when the regatta was postponed after a rough start, the weather improved greatly with calm conditions when racing finished in the early evening. Union had another exceptional day at the office and all of us went home with an impressive amount of bling. The 'heroes of the day' awards go to Andreas and Stéphane for their efforts in the single in the most trying conditions early on in the day, and to our novices Antonia, Cath, Wendy and Tessa, for hanging in there and doing so very well. Our thanks to Margot Darling from Columba College, and Theodor Giannakogiorgos (Andreas's son) for coxing, and to Mike and Tanja for organising another great outing.

And let’s not forget Dan Bachelor, who nailed out some impressive times on 5 February in the indoor rowing for a string of silvers – it took a 43 year old to beat him in the 43- 49 class! Dan’s times: 2000m in 6.41, 1000m in 3.10, 500m in 1.30. Congratulations, Dan!
